Affordable website builder and hosting for Ecommerce?

Written by admin on Friday, March 20th, 2009

I'm about to set up my first online webstore selling clothes. Could anyone suggest an affordable website builder (drag and drop because I'm not familiar with html) and website hosting? I hear there are free ones available. Where could I get information about this?

I recommend http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European web hosting companies, currently hosting over 500 000 websites. They have plans starting from $1.45/month. Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor (so you can build a website without knowledge of HTML), Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. Check them out.

How much does website hosting cost?

Written by admin on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

I am setting up a business, and one of the main parts will be a website. The site is fairly simple, static, non-transactional.
How much does hosting cost per year? I dont need anything special, but something very reliable with good customer service.

I have found that using Webstarts is the easiest way to complete you very own free website. There is a uniqe drag and drop tool that is extremely easy to use. Plus with a free membership you can get up to 5 free websites.

i need:

+paysite
+webcam live
+store
+mac compatible
+ easy to edit
+easy
any suggestions?

I just checked out the BlueHost details, I am an affiliate.

They use Cpanel, the industry standard control panel. If you are not comfortable with that, then chances are very good that you will not be happy with 95% of other hosts either.

You're probably be in good shape with a $3-$5/ month host that is reliable. They are out there.

This next step will save you money. Find a website that is similar to what you'd like to have. There are lots of entry level web designers that will not charge you much, and will be able to duplicate the site that you do like with some minor modifications.

As a model, I would assume that the most important part of your site will be a single or multiple image galleries. Most servers will have this available as a simple install that any basic designer with half a brain can work with.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you could find a designer to copy a site, change a few images, and give you a quick lesson on how to update things yourself for under $100.

As for the Mac, if the design and maintenance are all done online, it should be compatible. (Some designs are flawed and mess up on different browsers.)

How does one start a website hosting?

Written by admin on Sunday, March 8th, 2009

How does one start a website hosting? Do you need to have a special license? ….like Yahoo! is a search engine did they have to acquire a license to provide geocities for web builders?
I don't mean how do you start a website - I mean, how does one start a website host, like a website that will host other websites.

Here are some websites and web documents on how to start a web hosting business. These websites give you information on how to set up your own web hosting business:

HostingResolve.com's Starting a Web Hosting Business
http://www.hostingresolve.com/book/ch01.pdf

Becoming a Web Host Company
http://www.dedicated-servers-seek.com/?articles/hosting_company

HostLibrary.com's Starting a Web Hosting Business

Another way of course is to simply become a reseller of a web hosting company, which is easier to start. Many hosting companies offer private label programs where you use their infrastructure but you can brand the business with your company name. An example of how this goes is Hostway's Private Label program http://www.hostway.com/resellers/private_label_program.html

What is a good website hosting service if you have a holiday property to let (preferably free)?

Written by admin on Thursday, March 5th, 2009

We have a property in Bulgaria and i want to build a free or cheap website to promote it. Are there any site hosting services which would have predesigned templates useful for property letting, including booking forms, etc.? Would prefer user recommendations rather than commercial approaches. Thanks!

You can advertise your holiday home on these sites for free.
I have a holiday home in Poland and use these plus my own site. http://www.polandholidayhomerental.com
Also you can add pic's and description of your property.
I found Yahoo site builder easy to use for building my site.
You can download the program to design your site for free. but you have to pay once you have put it on line. mine costs £6.75 a month

what is a good website hosting company for photographers?

Written by admin on Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I am in the process of creating my website for my photography business and am getting overwhelmed by all of the hosting/design sites. What is a good price? What features should I look for? any help is much appreciated.

if you are looking for a cheap and good host, consider www.3ix.com. i don't think there's anyone that can beat their basic plan which starts at US$1 per month. i've been using them for about 3 years now without any complaints.

i'm not too sure about their design services though…. but if you engage them to do the design, you'll get your hosting and domain name free for 1 year.

since you are likely to be uploading new pictures every now and then, you may want to tell them to design an easily scalable site that can grow together with your business. a site that provides a "Maintenance" page that allows you to manage (ie. add/modify/delete) picture "Catagories", and also a facility to add/delete pictures in each catagory.

however, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty in techie stuff, you should like their cPanel (http://control.3ix.org/), which is a graphical interface for managing almost anything on your website. many other hosting comanies offer this cPanel too….. as it has become more or less a standard offering on most of them. don't accept anything less.
hope this helps :O)

How do I transfer my website hosting company?

Written by admin on Friday, February 27th, 2009

Here is the most common question I get about hosting companies.

I need to transfer my website which is all about Fish Tank Aquariums whose domain is hosted by Easy Host. I want to switch to a new website hosting company, but still keep my website address. I get a lot of visitors to JSFishTankAquariums.com and I really don’t want to risk loosing any business or have any down time.
Also, I just recently switched from a PC to a Mac, so I would need a compatible website hosting company as well. Any suggestions.

I recommend Hostgator (just click on the link).

They’re the best:

1. They offer several different plans starting at $4.95 per month up to a business plan at $12.95/month.

2. There are no hidden costs or fees associated with having the account at Hostgator unlike many other hosting companies.

3. You will get unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth and with their Baby and Business accounts unlimited domains allowed. This means you can piggy back hosting on one account. So if you have two or 20 websites there is no reason to purchase separate hosting accounts.

You just have to initiate your domain name transfer from the company you registered the domain with.

Is website hosting for a charity tax deductible?

Written by admin on Friday, February 27th, 2009

I'm hosting a website for a registered charity and I'm a little confused on the rules.

Services are not tax deductible, but any additional costs that may occur ARE tax deductible.

This charity is using space and abandwidth on the server that I pay for. I havent charged them a dime because I have a few personal things on the server as well and the server is large enough to host multiple websites.

Tax deductible? No?
Wayne, But I could've taken the space and bandwidth and sold it to someone else. Instead, I'm giving it to a registered charity. Doesn't that have some sort of implication?

Not tax deductible unless you can identify specific out of pocket expenses that you paid in order to provide the service. You are donating the use of personal property.

Seems analogous to a person hosting an event at their house for the charity. The host could deduct the cost of food served, hired help, etc., but could not deduct the rental value of the home for the event, even though the host could have rented out the home for a day event for money.
